Starting with the Public Meeting called by Daemon Gruenwald way back in 1997, ARAC was formed to oppose the closure of the Akatarawa Forest for no perceived reason.
Wellington Regional Council did at least front up and listen to users concerned, and from here, a representative liaison group was formed that continues to meet with Council on a regular basis.
Although “Born of Anger”, the ARAC/GW relationship is far more amicable these days – although we simply agree to disagree on many topics – we nonetheless have found ways to work exceptionally well together.
So much so that a Memorandum of Understanding is in the process of being drafted that will even further define the working relationship that the two parties have forged.
