The new project is divided into distinct components:-
The existing barbeque area will be demolished, although the roof will likely be reused to provide permanent shelter in the middle of the lawn area.
It will be replaced by a 6 meter by 5 metre concrete pad with a central barbeque and cantilever steel roof (to match the Orange Hut).
A block-work wall 1.5 metres high will surround the barbeque on 3 sides, with seating built in a provision for wood storage below.
A bespoke stainless wood-burning barbeque will be centre stage
The water supply has been recently upgraded, but more is needed to ensure it will survive winter storms and flash-flooding.
To reduce the likelihood of bikes being able to access the lawn and vandalise what should be a valuable asset, fencing will be continued around the whole of the Hut itself. A chicane will make bike access even harder.
There is currently a good supply of water to the toilet, but that will be extended across the carpark to the outside wall of the new barbeque area.
A new soak-pit will be dug, and drains from the new sink and all guttering will be diverted with new guttering etc.
Greater Wellington Regional Council have done a great job recently, with a machine clearing and leveling the carpark. More will be done by way of permanent drainage to handle the wetest of winder weather.
The log hauler will get some specialise attention including a sandblast and a coat of paint before being elevanted on a rock plinth to provide a centre-piece within the carpark
At either end of the hauler, display signage will be erected to provide information from both GW and ARAC - including historical content, current user advice, sponsors etc
